Argentina's Crypto Market Dominated by Stablecoins at 94% Adoption Rate
A new report from venture firm a16z crypto found that Argentina's stablecoin adoption has reached an astonishing 94% of peso-denominated crypto trading volume.
This is the highest share recorded for any major currency tracked by analytics firm Artemis, and it suggests that Argentines have quietly rebuilt parts of their financial lives on top of tokens like USDT, USDC, and USDS.
The report notes that this shift goes beyond mere speculation, with 94% of peso crypto trading volume flowing into stablecoins even as economic conditions stabilize. This is a sign that holding and trading digital dollars has become a default financial behavior for many in the country.
Roughly one in five Argentinians now uses cryptocurrency, making Argentina among the most crypto-active populations in Latin America. Downloads of top 15 crypto apps in Argentina surged 93% year-over-year in 2024, indicating that adoption has expanded beyond early adopters and professional traders into everyday consumers.
Economic and regulatory shifts have played a role in this trend, with Argentina's inflation crisis initially driving the adoption of stablecoins. However, even as monthly inflation peaked at 25.5% and then fell to 2.1%, stablecoin usage remained steady rather than retreating.
