Arkham Unveils Human-Readable OP_RETURN Messages on Bitcoin Transaction Pages
A new feature has been rolled out on Arkham Intelligence's Bitcoin transaction pages. As of August 6, users can now view OP_RETURN messages directly, which were previously hidden as raw hexadecimal strings.
The OP_RETURN opcode allows up to 80 bytes of arbitrary data to be embedded into a transaction, effectively creating a short text message that gets permanently recorded on the blockchain.
Victims pleading for stolen funds to be returned, scammers advertising their services, and random individuals trying to contact hackers directly are just some examples of the messages surfacing through this update.
The timing of this rollout is notable, coinciding with heightened scrutiny around a Bitcoin address implicated in a recent Coldcard hardware wallet theft. This address has accumulated a significant number of OP_RETURN entries, turning the blockchain into a public forum for victims and observers to leave related messages.
