Armstrong: AI Boosts Crypto Demand, Not Threat
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong dismissed concerns that the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) will hurt the cryptocurrency market. He said that AI and crypto are not competing technologies, but rather complementary ones.
'Zero-sum, scarcity thinking' is what leads people to believe that one must come at the expense of the other,' Armstrong wrote on X. 'This is simply not true.'
Armstrong views cryptocurrency as a general-purpose technology, similar to electricity or the internet. He believes that AI will create more demand for programmable, real-time digital payments, which crypto provides.
A strong AI megatrend does not detract from crypto but makes it more important, according to Armstrong. As Agentic Finance becomes more mainstream, AI agents will need their own financial infrastructure and could potentially transact far more per day than all humans combined,' he said.
