Armstrong: Crypto Deserves Credit for Unlocking Global Financial Access
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong believes that crypto deserves more recognition for its role in expanding financial access worldwide. According to him, stablecoins have brought digital versions of the US dollar onto blockchain networks, allowing users to hold and transfer dollar-denominated value without relying on traditional banking infrastructure.
Armstrong highlights stablecoins as one of the clearest examples of crypto's real-world utility. He argues that these dollar-backed tokens provide an alternative way to hold dollar exposure for users in economies facing currency depreciation, and facilitate international payments at any time, including weekends and holidays.
The Coinbase CEO also points to DeFi, Bitcoin, and tokenization as technologies expanding access to credit and global assets. DeFi has created open financial markets operating through smart contracts, allowing users to interact directly with lending and borrowing protocols without the need for traditional banking systems.
