Armstrong: Crypto Will Power AI Agents, Not Be Replaced By Them

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has rejected the idea that cryptocurrencies should 'pivot to AI' in order to remain relevant. In a recent post on X, he argued that crypto is a general-purpose technology that underpins other innovations, rather than competing with them.

'It's infrastructure, the same way electricity or the internet is infrastructure,' Armstrong said. 'It doesn't compete with the next big thing, because it underpins it. It's an and, not an or.'

Armstrong believes that the growth of AI will actually increase the importance of crypto, as AI agents will require new financial systems to operate independently.
