Armstrong Rejects AI Pivot Calls Amid Blockchain Micropayment Hype
Brian Armstrong, CEO of Coinbase, is pushing back against calls for a pivot towards artificial intelligence (AI) in cryptocurrency. According to Armstrong, changes in the network's computing power do not dictate Bitcoin's market price.
In contrast, Franklin Templeton's head of digital assets, Sandy Kaul, believes that AI agents will transform blockchain through agentic micropayments. This concept involves using AI algorithms to facilitate transactions and other financial activities on a blockchain.
RippleX has reported that AI agents have already recorded 1.4 million XRP transactions on the XRPL, with autonomous algorithms utilizing XRP and RLUSD. Meanwhile, Augustus has secured $180 million in funding to expand its dollar-payment infrastructure for fintechs and institutions.
