Arthur Hayes Returns as CEO of Flop Labs, Aims to Revolutionize AI Payments
Arthur Hayes is returning to an operating role in crypto as CEO of Flop Labs, a project developing blockchain infrastructure for payments between artificial intelligence agents and providers of computing resources. Hayes announced that he was 'coming out of retirement' to lead the company.
Flop Labs plans a large FLOP token airdrop in the fourth quarter of 2026, followed by the network's genesis block in the first quarter of 2027. The project describes Flop Network as a 'proof-of-useful-inference' protocol, which allows autonomous AI agents to use the native FLOP token to purchase services such as inference and decentralized memory.
The concept addresses a practical problem for autonomous software: AI agents may need to buy computing capacity, access paid data or use external services without requiring human approval. Flop Labs is betting that crypto wallets and programmable payments can provide this economic layer.
