Arya.ag Brings $2B in Stored Commodities Onchain with Blockchain-Based Lending Platform

Share

Arya.ag, one of India's largest agricultural warehousing companies, is introducing a new blockchain-based system to connect grain deposits, electronic warehouse receipts, and loan status. The project, in collaboration with Finternet, aims to give lenders a more reliable way to verify the commodities backing agricultural loans.

Nandan Nilekani, co-founder of Infosys and non-executive chairman, revealed the initiative during his Global Fintech Festival keynote. Arya.ag's existing business involves holding approximately $2 billion in agricultural commodities across its warehouse network, supporting around ₹12,000 crore (~$1.3 billion) in loans annually.

The new platform will tokenise electronic warehouse receipts to connect records of grain deposits with their collateralization and associated loan status. This will provide a clearer view of the collateral supporting a loan and its financing status for lenders.
