Asian Capital Fuels Bitcoin Recovery, Metaplanet CEO Predicts New Cycle
Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich believes Bitcoin's recent recovery marks the end of its latest downturn. Speaking at Bitcoin Asia 2026 in Hong Kong, he said forced selling has given way to stronger demand and that 'the bottom is in.' Metaplanet accumulated BTC during the downturn, transforming it into the largest publicly traded corporate BTC holder in Asia.
Gerovich pointed out that Asian households and institutions have amassed enormous savings, particularly in Japan. He noted that Japanese households hold around $14 trillion in financial assets, with roughly half sitting in bank deposits earning little return.
The CEO expects the region to lead Bitcoin's next major market cycle, driven by a growing pool of Asian capital. He believes regulated financial infrastructure, including custody, lending, and trading products designed for local markets, will be crucial for this process.
