Asian Stablecoins to Integrate Local Currency Payment Rails via Crypto Wallets
Will Wu, Head of APAC at Bitget Wallet, spoke about the future of Asian stablecoins during the FUTUREMODE 2026 roundtable forum. He argued that the success of stablecoins in everyday finance is not measured by their growth, but rather by whether users develop recurring payment habits.
In July this year, Bitget Wallet saw daily payment transactions surpass trading transactions for the first time. This milestone was marked by physical card users making an average of 10 payments per month, with each transaction averaging $28. These figures indicate a shift towards daily consumption patterns.
Wu also discussed monetary sovereignty and dollarization. He emphasized that the currency users want to hold does not necessarily need to match the currency merchants require. Bitget Wallet aims to facilitate this understanding by streamlining exchange processes for its users.
In terms of predictions, Wu forecasts that the Asian stablecoin market will adopt an orchestration layer architecture by 2027. This new framework would integrate crypto wallets as gateways, connecting dollar stablecoins with local currency payment rails through regulated partners.
