ASIC Sets Final Deadline for Crypto Firms to Get Licensed
Australia's regulatory body for financial services, ASIC, has set a September 30 deadline for crypto firms to obtain a license or face penalties. The warning is part of ASIC's no-action policy, which granted a temporary reprieve from enforcement for qualifying digital-asset businesses.
The policy initially had a June 30 deadline but was extended three months and broadened the available compliance routes. More than 45 applications have been submitted since October 2025, when ASIC updated its guidance.
Firms that require authorization but fail to meet the conditions will lose the benefit of ASIC's temporary reprieve from October 1. The regulator warned that breaches can carry civil and criminal penalties, including fines of up to 10% of annual turnover.
The deadline does not apply uniformly across the crypto sector, as assessment turns on the rights, benefits, expectations, and product features attached to each offering.
