ASIC Warns Crypto Firms: Apply for Licenses by Sept 30 or Face Consequences
Australia's financial regulator has issued a final warning to crypto businesses relying on temporary relief. The deadline for qualifying firms to apply for required financial licenses is September 30.
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) warned that unlicensed firms operating outside the relief conditions may face civil and criminal penalties from October. Potential fines can reach 10% of annual turnover for businesses breaching Australian financial services law.
Since updating its guidance in October 2025, ASIC has recorded more than 45 digital asset-related licence applications.
