Assam Man Arrested for Alleged Role in Over 1,090 Cybercrimes Worth Rs 1,071.5 Crore
Rafiqul Alam, a 25-year-old man from Assam, was arrested by the Gujarat CID for his alleged involvement in over 1,090 cybercrimes across India. The crimes, which date back to various points in time, include 'digital arrest' cases and amount to a staggering Rs 1,071.5 crore.
According to police, Alam was the mastermind behind transferring tainted money into 1,758 bank accounts across the country and converting funds into cryptocurrencies. He would then send these cryptocurrencies to China through messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram.
The accused used various tactics to launder the money, including splitting large amounts into smaller ones to evade financial surveillance agencies. Police found that Alam had transacted over Rs 16 crore through 23 crypto wallets in his mobile phones, establishing a connection between cryptocurrency and a China-based gang.
