Athena Bitcoin Cuts Ties with Lobbying Firm Amid Scrutiny
Athena Bitcoin has ended its federal lobbying contract with Government Relations Group LLC, according to an LDA termination filing. The filing covers quarter two of 2026 and reports no lobbying income, no lobbyists, and no specific issues lobbied.
The company spent $0 on lobbying in the second quarter, down from $15,000 reported in quarter one of 2025. Over the past five years, Athena Bitcoin has spent a total of $111,500 on lobbying, including $51,500 across the last four quarters.
The termination follows a period of scrutiny for the company, which was sued by the D.C. attorney general in September 2025 over allegations of charging undisclosed fees and failing to protect consumers from scams.
