Athena Bitcoin Fails Most of AML Code Theft Lawsuit Claims

Athena Bitcoin Inc. has failed to escape most of AML Software Inc.'s claims that it stole computer source code used in Bitcoin ATMs. US District Court for the Southern District of Florida Judge Rodolfo A. Ruiz II ruled on Tuesday that six out of eight total claims brought by AML survived Athena's motion to dismiss.

The surviving claims include copyright infringement, misappropriation of trade secrets, and breach of fiduciary duty. However, Judge Ruiz dismissed conversion claims regarding the AML software and against Ryan Pineo, AML's former president and primary code developer who was accused of orchestrating the code theft regarding license payments.

Athens' attempt to dismiss these claims was unsuccessful, leaving AML with a significant portion of its original lawsuit intact. The ruling sets a precedent for the ongoing legal battle between Athena Bitcoin Inc. and AML Software Inc.
