ATOM Holds Key to Inter-Blockchain Communication

The Cosmos Hub network is the foundation for a broader technology ecosystem that enables independent networks to communicate with each other. The native asset of this network is ATOM, which is not necessarily used by all networks within the Cosmos ecosystem.

Cosmos Hub's role is to provide tools such as the Cosmos SDK and IBC (Inter-Blockchain Communication) for transferring messages and assets between supported networks. This structure allows different networks to connect with each other without becoming a single ledger.

ATOM holders can participate in the network's proof-of-stake security by delegating to validators, who play a role in block production and consensus. Delegation does not involve handing over private keys, but a validator's behavior, commission, and slashing rules can affect economic outcomes.
