August Crypto Hacks Skyrocket as Estimated Losses Plummet
Crypto hacks rose significantly in August, increasing by 67% from July's count. Despite this surge in incidents, estimated losses fell sharply to $136.3 million.
The Tectonic project suffered a major borrowing event that accounted for more than half of the month's reported losses at $74 million. This was followed closely by Cronos' reversal of $68.7 million, leaving around $6 million beyond the rollback's reach.
PeckShield reported a total of 50 major incidents in August, resulting in estimated losses of $136.3 million. This represents a decline of 49.5% from July's figure of $270 million.
