August Uncertainty Looms Over Bitcoin as Analysts Weigh Correction vs Rally
Bitcoin's price has been under scrutiny as analysts debate whether the cryptocurrency will continue to rise or face a correction in August. Historically, August has been one of Bitcoin's weakest months, with an average return of 1.1% and a median return of -6.99% since 2013.
The data from Coinglass shows that in recent years, BTC has fallen by 6.5%, 8.6%, 11.3%, and 13.9% in August 2025, 2024, 2023, and 2022 respectively. However, there was a notable exception in 2021 when Bitcoin rallied 13.8%, and in 2017 when it gained 65.3% during the bull market.
Despite these historical trends, some analysts are bullish on BTC's prospects for August. Michaël van de Poppe believes that the wider uptrend is still intact as long as Bitcoin stays above the $60,000 support level, and points to compressed volatility across crypto markets that could be a sign of a big breakout.
On the other hand, pseudonymous analyst PlanB thinks that Bitcoin is in a 'bottoming process' and may dip further before a sustainable recovery begins. He notes that previous market bottoms have taken anywhere from one to three months to form.
