August's Uncertainty: Bitcoin and Ethereum's Historically Weak Performance
The performance of Bitcoin and Ethereum in past Augusts has been historically weak. In July, Ethereum outperformed Bitcoin, gaining 18.5% compared to Bitcoin's 7%. However, looking at the historical data, Ethereum's August performance since 2016 presents a mixed picture.
Of the 10 Augusts examined, ETH only finished four with gains, while it experienced losses in six periods. The strongest performance was seen in 2017, when ETH rose by 92.86%. In contrast, the sharpest decline occurred in 2018, with Ethereum losing 34.79% of its value on a monthly basis.
The average return for Ethereum in August since 2016 is 6.74 percent. However, the median return is -1.74 percent, suggesting that strong periods like 2017 are responsible for the positive average.
