Aurum Capitol Ventures' Bitcoin Mine Uses Zero Water, Plans AI Data Center Expansion

Aurum Capitol Ventures' land agent Charlie White addressed concerns about electric and water usage at the company's bitcoin mine in Des Moines County, Iowa. The facility, which began production in September 2025, has not used any water since then. The cooling system uses a dry method, like a giant radiator on a vehicle, except for extreme heat conditions above 100 degrees.

The bitcoin mine is located near an Eastern Iowa Light and Power substation and the Big River Resources ethanol plant. White said excess electricity was available at the site and the landowner was willing to sell off unused property. The company pays $2.6 million per year for electricity, which adds to the bottom line of the electrical service provider.

Aurum Capitol Ventures is also planning a 25-megawatt AI data center at the same location. White said Iowa's excess electricity and lower kilowatt-hour prices make it an attractive place for data centers compared to other states like California, where prices are 75 cents per kilowatt.
