AUSTRAC Suspends Crypto ATM Operator Over Compliance Issues

Australia's financial intelligence agency has taken a tough stance on crypto ATMs by suspending the registration of Cryptolink Pty Ltd, a major operator in the country. The move comes after AUSTRAC found that the company failed to meet basic compliance obligations.

The suspension affects 96 crypto ATMs across Australia, which were taken offline starting August 9, 2026. This marks a significant escalation in the regulator's approach to the growing crypto ATM sector, which has ballooned from just 23 machines in 2019 to roughly 1,800 in recent years.

AUSTRAC had already fined Cryptolink $56,340 in October 2025 for inadequate reporting and risk assessment practices. The regulator's focus is on ensuring that operators have proper procedures in place to prevent money laundering and other illicit activities.
