Austria Hits Bitpanda with First-Ever MiCA Fine of €70,000
The Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA) has imposed a €70,000 fine on Bitpanda for violating requirements of the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA). The company submitted its white paper to the regulator late and distributed marketing materials without the required document.
The FMA called this case the first published MiCA penalty decision, signaling that regulation is moving into the enforcement phase. This marks a shift from licensing and supervision to direct enforcement of European crypto-asset regulations.
