Austria Taxes Bitcoin Lending Income Immediately
Bitcoin lending in Austria is subject to taxation as soon as the investor can dispose of the rewards. This includes daily credits to an accessible platform account, monthly payouts to a wallet, allocation of freely transferable reward tokens, and automatic credits with immediate reinvestment.
The tax rate for ongoing income from cryptocurrencies is 27.5 percent in Austria. This applies to both lending payments and later realised increases in value of the coins received. However, private cryptocurrency loans may be subject to a lower or higher progressive income tax tariff depending on total income.
Some platforms market interest-bearing crypto products as staking, but this does not necessarily mean they are treated differently for tax purposes. The finance ministry warns that products described as staking can amount to lending for tax purposes if the arrangement is economically a supply of cryptocurrencies for consideration.
