Avalanche Entangled in South Korea's Tokenization Roadmap
The Financial Services Commission in South Korea has unveiled a roadmap for tokenizing stocks, bonds, and funds, sparking debate over whether Avalanche (AVAX) will play a major role.
The plan, announced on September 4, outlines a three-phase rollout starting from February 4, 2027. Phase one covers privately pooled money market funds, institutional bonds, unlisted stocks, and publicly offered fractional investment securities.
Avalanche's team has claimed that the network will power this effort, but an official statement from the Financial Services Commission does not mention any specific blockchain platform. Instead, it highlights Samsung SDS as the contractor building the depository's token infrastructure.
This raises questions about whether AVAX is indeed set to be the underlying infrastructure for South Korea's national securities system. While the network's own announcement frames the effort as powered by its network, other pilots connected to the broader tokenization push have tested different networks entirely.
