Avalanche Foundation Introduces Gross Chain Income Metric
The Avalanche Foundation has developed a new metric called Gross Chain Income (GCI) to measure how value flows through its ecosystem.
GCI is part of the Foundation's Economic Research Agenda, which was published on July 30, 2026. The agenda is built around three themes: Measure, Capture, and Distribute.
The metric is designed to track income flows to validators, developers, liquidity providers, and other ecosystem participants, including revenue streams that originate off-chain.
GCI measures where production ends up in the Avalanche ecosystem, similar to how GDP captures total goods and services produced by a country.
