Avalanche Helicon Upgrade Promises Faster Transactions and More Flexible Staking
Avalanche Helicon is an upcoming upgrade to the Avalanche blockchain that promises faster transaction processing and more flexible staking options.
One of the key features of Helicon is a new way for the C-Chain, which runs smart contracts, to process transactions. Currently, the C-Chain has to finish one block's transactions before it can confirm the next block, but with Helicon, this will change. New transactions will be accepted while a separate process works through existing ones.
Another significant change is the introduction of auto-renewing staking. Instead of having to manually restart the staking process when it ends, users will be able to set a repeating time period and have their rewards automatically renewed.
Avalanche has also raised the uptime requirement for validators from 80% to 90%. This means that validators must stay online and responsive for at least 90% of the time to continue earning staking rewards. The minimum staking duration is also being reduced from two weeks to 48 hours, making it easier for large institutions to participate in staking.
The Helicon upgrade will also introduce a new dynamic fee system, where validators can vote to adjust the minimum transaction fee based on real-time conditions. This is meant to prevent spam bots from flooding the network with cheap transactions.
