Avalanche's Price Plunge: Why Record Network Activity Isn't Boosting AVAX
The price of Avalanche's native token, AVAX, has plummeted by more than 70% in the past year and around 95% from its all-time high near $145. The paradox is that despite a record number of transactions processed on the network, transaction volumes have not translated into higher prices for AVAX.
The Avalanche network has seen significant growth in recent quarters, with a record 235.6 million transactions processed on the C-Chain in Q2 2026, stablecoin transfer volume reaching $84.4 billion, and decentralized exchange volume totaling $8.7 billion. However, this increase in activity has not been accompanied by higher demand for AVAX, which is used to pay fees and secure the network through staking.
The low transaction costs on Avalanche's network have created a value-capture problem, as millions of additional transactions can generate relatively little AVAX demand when each transaction costs only a tiny fraction of a cent. Meanwhile, staking rewards continuously mint new AVAX, contributing to the token's inflationary supply.
