John Deaton, also known as 'The XRP Ripple Lawyer,' has been advocating for XRP holders in the US. He initially got drawn into the world of cryptocurrency with Bitcoin and later moved on to other coins, including Ethereum, because of its fast transaction settlement times. Deaton's daughter bought $2,500 worth of XRP using her birthday money, which sparked his interest in the case.

When the SEC sued Ripple and argued that XRP is an unregistered security, Deaton thought about people like his daughter who bought XRP without knowing anything about Ripple. He filed a motion to represent everyday XRP holders who had no relationship with Ripple.

Deaton's legal effort grew to include 75,000 XRP holders from 143 different countries. Despite initial assumptions that he was being paid by Ripple, Deaton insists that he acted out of frustration over the government's claim.
