B20 Tokens Test Weekend Liquidity and Collateral Infrastructure
Coinbase's B20 stock tokens, which track Apple (AAPL), Alphabet (GOOGL), Meta (META), and Nvidia (NVDA) shares, remained relatively stable over the weekend despite the underlying equity markets being closed.
The tokens, issued on the Base platform, allow eligible users outside the US to buy or sell exposure to these stocks 24/7. The prices of the tokenized assets were observed to be close to their Friday reference values, with a small gap between the two.
Aave, a decentralized lending protocol, was mentioned as an example of potential use case for the B20 tokens. However, the official Aave V3 Base address book found no reserve for any of the four tokens, and the proposal for V4 on Base has not yet been finalized, leaving the risk controls unresolved.
The weekend test revealed that while the secondary market remained available, the equity-linked feed follows a 24/5 schedule, and underlying execution and settlement retain business-day dependencies. This creates a gap in the collateral infrastructure for lending protocols like Aave.
