Back Pours Cold Water on Altcoin Hopes: BTC Alone is Genuine Scarcity
Blockstream's CEO Adam Back is reiterating his call for investors to buy Bitcoin (BTC) and hold onto it, citing the efficient market hypothesis. In a series of posts on X across May 23 and 24, Back argued that tokens with no cash flows, blockspace demand, or durable advantages over rivals are worthless.
The absence of these traits, according to Back, renders any price above zero irrational. He has made this claim since the previous market cycle and pointed out that Bitcoin's recent rebound after a delayed Clarity Act vote contrasts with most altcoins' failure to hold gains from the same catalyst.
Back's warning carries weight due to his reputation as one of Bitcoin's most outspoken maximalists, although he has repeatedly denied being Satoshi Nakamoto. His stance also aligns with Bitcoin's recent performance, which saw it slide to a four-week low before rebounding sharply.
