Back's Bitcoin Prescription: 'Buy, Hold, Repeat' Amid Altcoin Repricing
Blockstream CEO Adam Back is urging investors to buy Bitcoin and hold onto it, citing the efficient market hypothesis that values alternative coins near zero. According to Back, memecoins, smart contract tokens, and other 'air tokens' lack any rational basis for a price above zero due to their inability to produce cash flows or draw meaningful blockspace demand.
Back's argument rests on three key absences: the absence of cash flows, the absence of meaningful blockspace demand, and the absence of a durable advantage over rivals. He believes that without these traits, there is no justification for a price above zero, and he has made this call since the previous market cycle.
The recent market performance of Bitcoin and alternative coins appears to support Back's view. After a delayed Clarity Act vote caused Bitcoin to slide to a four-week low, it rebounded sharply once a broad macro rally took hold. In contrast, most altcoins failed to hold any gains from the same catalyst.
Back's warning carries weight due to his reputation as a leading figure in the cryptocurrency space. He has been tipped as a potential candidate for Satoshi Nakamoto, Bitcoin's pseudonymous creator, although he has repeatedly denied this rumor.
