BaFin Warns of Money Laundering Schemes in Crypto Job Ads
Germans are being warned about job advertisements for back office and administration support positions that may be money laundering schemes. The BaFin regulator published a consumer notice on August 18, 2026, after discovering grounds to suspect that crypto-asset services were being provided without the required authorisation.
The jobs require applicants to receive third-party payments through their own bank account and forward them to an external address or exchange them for crypto-assets. This is not a legitimate back office job, but rather making one's current account available as a transit station for funds that likely originate from victims of fraud.
BaFin has warned about similar schemes in the past, where jobs were advertised under labels such as 'work as a trust assistant.' The regulator notes that it has no authority to judge the legitimacy of the job advertisements themselves but can investigate if it receives complaints or tips.
