Balancer is considering a shutdown after its revenue failed to recover following a $128 million hack in November 2025. The protocol was unable to replace V2 revenue with new V3 income, despite reducing costs and launching new products.

'We fulfilled our promise of launching products that were announced to the BAL token holders but we were unable to create revenues,' said CEO Marcus Hardt.

A plan to wind down the project has been proposed, which would involve giving out treasury holdings worth over $9 million to BAL token holders. The proposal will be put to a vote by BAL token holders from September 25-29.
