Balancer Proposes Wind-Down of V3 Business Amid Revenue Growth Woes

Balancer is planning to wind down its V3 business due to disappointing revenue growth. The protocol's CEO, Marcus Hardt, suggests an orderly shutdown after restructuring efforts failed to restore DeFi revenue generation.

The proposal would see at least $9 million in the DAO treasury distributed to BAL users if accepted. Pools would transition to withdrawals starting on October 30th, 2026, with the first treasury distribution scheduled for May 2027.

Hardt stated that Balancer delivered on its restructuring commitments, including ending emissions, reducing costs, and continuing V3 product operations such as Boosted Pools and AutoRange Pools. However, revenue from these products has not replaced income from the legacy V2 system.
