BankChain Alliance Forms Industry-Owned Blockchain Network for US Banks

Share

The BankChain Alliance has been formed by thirty-nine state banking associations to develop an industry-owned blockchain network for banks.

The proposed network will support tokenized deposits, stablecoins, programmable payments, and automated financial settlement services. It is set to launch in the United States in 2027, although a technology partner and governance structure have yet to be selected.

BankChain aims to provide smaller and regional banks with access to blockchain infrastructure without requiring each bank to develop its own network. The alliance represents thousands of financial institutions across 39 states, but no individual bank has publicly committed to using the service.
