Bankinter Joins €30M Funding Round in Spanish Exchange Bit2Me
Spain's Bankinter has invested in Bit2Me, joining a €30 million funding round led by Tether last August. This marks the bank's entry into cryptocurrency infrastructure under regulatory frameworks established by the European Union. The Madrid-based exchange received authorization from Spain's securities regulator CNMV on July 29, 2025, as a Crypto-Asset Service Provider.
The partnership aims to explore technological synergies between distributed ledger technology solutions and traditional banking systems. Bankinter now joins fellow Spanish banks BBVA, Unicaja, and Cecabank as shareholders in Bit2Me. The exchange plans to accelerate expansion across the European Union while reinforcing operations in Argentina and other Latin American markets.
Pablo Casadío, Bit2Me's CFO, stated that banks can leverage the platform's regulatory expertise rather than compete directly. He emphasized Spain and Europe present an 'unbeatable scenario' for financial institutions to capitalize on the environment due to technological and regulatory solidity.
