Bankman-Fried Seeks Supreme Court Review of FTX Conviction

Sam Bankman-Fried, founder of the collapsed cryptocurrency exchange FTX, has filed a petition with the US Supreme Court to overturn his conviction on seven counts of fraud, conspiracy, and money laundering.

The former CEO is currently serving a 25-year prison sentence after being convicted in 2023. A federal appeals court upheld the conviction in June 2026, ruling unanimously that Bankman-Fried's actions met the definition of wire fraud, which does not require proof of financial loss.

Bankman-Fried's legal team argues that the trial court blocked him from presenting evidence that FTX and its affiliate Alameda Research held sufficient assets to repay customers, even if they were temporarily unable to access them.
