Banks Adapt to Stablecoin Demand with New Services
Stablecoins are increasingly being used for business transactions, but many banks still view them as a compliance problem rather than a payment rail. However, a handful of institutions have taken a different approach and now offer stablecoin-friendly services to businesses.
The key characteristics of these banks include holding stablecoin reserves, issuing their own tokens, or building accounts that accept both fiat and stablecoin payments through the same interface. They also prioritize regulatory standing over compliance.
One such bank is Bancoli, which solves the problem of running stablecoins alongside conventional payments by accepting US dollar bank transfers, ACH, RTP, and stablecoins into a single destination. This flexibility allows businesses to choose the payment rail they prefer, and the settlement mechanics are transparent, with different options for different amounts.
Other banks, such as Customers Bank, offer full banking services with charter status, providing FDIC coverage for deposits held at insured banks. However, onboarding for digital asset businesses can be more involved than a fintech signup, and selectivity is key.
