Barca Mobile Taps Stellar for Cross-Border Payments
FC Barcelona's mobile telecom service, Barça Mobile, is expanding its offerings to include an in-app digital wallet. The wallet will be powered by the Stellar blockchain and will provide users with faster and cheaper payment options for cross-border transactions.
The infrastructure behind the wallet will be provided by a trio of companies: Wirex, which will handle payment processing and card services; Crossmint, which will manage wallet technology and user onboarding; and the Stellar Development Foundation, which will provide the settlement layer underneath it all.
Barça Mobile, which launched in April 2025 as an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) with Orange's physical network infrastructure, already spans over 170 countries through its travel eSIM functionality. The wallet will support payments and rewards within the app, making cross-border value transfers a core use case.
