Bart Simpson Pattern Returns to Haunt Crypto Markets
Crypto markets are displaying a familiar pattern that has some traders invoking 'Bart Simpson.' The sudden price spike in Bitcoin (BTC), followed by a flat range and a sharp reversal, is reminiscent of the spiky-haired cartoon character from The Simpsons. This pattern, known as the Bart Simpson Pattern, was first identified in 2015 by @whaleclubco when BTC traded at $229.
The current market action appears to be following this pattern, with Bitcoin's price rising sharply from around $64,420 on August 19 to $78,300 by August 21. However, the price failed to break above $80,700 and has since pulled back to around $76,500. Some traders are flagging this as a potential Bart Simpson Pattern.
Ben Cowen, founder of Into the Cryptoverse, identified the pattern on September 1 and suggested that it may be forming. The pattern consists of three phases: the Spike, the Flat Range (or head), and the Snap Back.
While some traders are warning of a potential pullback of at least 20%, others believe that Bitcoin's price will continue to rise. Mati Greenspan, founder of Quantum Economics, doubts that the pattern will complete.
