Base App Goes Multichain: A New Chapter in Interoperability
Base App has shifted its focus to become a multichain platform, allowing users to access various blockchains through a single interface. This move aims to reduce chain lock-in and increase user growth. According to DeFiLlama, Base's Total Value Locked (TVL) is approximately $4.65 billion, with 262,505 active addresses in the last 24 hours and 11.07 million daily transactions.
Despite its strong activity, a large share of Base's capital is bridged rather than native, indicating that users are comfortable importing liquidity across networks. The stablecoin dominance on Base, led by USDC at approximately 85.6%, suggests payments and commerce are key use cases for the platform.
The multichain strategy has been successful in other consumer-facing protocols, such as Uniswap, which maintains a significant footprint on multiple chains. This precedent suggests that the Base App can scale without being exclusive to Base. However, it also underscores the challenge of competing with other chains and maintaining user engagement across networks.
