Base Breaks Free from Optimism Infrastructure, Reduces External Dependencies
Base, an Ethereum Layer 2 network backed by Coinbase, is moving its tech stack to independent infrastructure. This change will reduce Base's reliance on external dependencies like Optimism's OP Stack since its launch in August 2023.
Node operators must migrate from Optimism releases to Base's client software to remain compatible with future upgrades. The new unified stack, designated 'base/base,' consolidates previously distributed code elements into a single repository built on open-source components including Reth.
The transition aims to increase Base's hard fork schedule from three to six per year. The Base Security Council is adding an independent signer to replace Optimism's position.
