Base Launches Tokenized Stocks for Global Trading
Tokenized stocks have taken a big leap forward on Base, a blockchain platform owned by Coinbase. The company has launched a tokenized version of four major US equities - NVDAc, AAPLc, METAc, and GOOGLc - which can be traded without the need for a brokerage account or being based in the US.
The tokens are issued through an Abu Dhabi SPV and custodyed by Alpaca Securities, an SEC-registered broker-dealer. This setup allows users to access these equities from self-custodial wallets, with over 50 apps live at launch, including lending platforms Aave, Morpho, and Euler.
Bitwise has also built a managed portfolio on the tokens, called Automated Token Portfolios, which rebalances holdings through user-authorized session keys. The first strategy, Mag7X, aims to equal-weight eight megacap names with 25% each, for a 0.15% fee.
