Base Network Suffers $500K USDC Drain via MEV Sandwich Attack
A recent attack on the Base network resulted in the draining of approximately $500,000 worth of USDC by an attacker-controlled address. According to PeckShieldAlert, the attacker, whose wallet is identified as 0x920d...9708, successfully drained the funds from a victim's wallet with the address 0x3a53...0B5c. However, in a surprising twist, the attacker lost most of the proceeds to an MEV bot after skipping slippage protection.
The total amount lost by the attacker is estimated to be around $129,000, leaving them with only about 67 WETH. This incident highlights the risks and complexities associated with MEV (Max Extractable Value) attacks in decentralized systems.
