BBVA Gets Green Light for Bitcoin, Ethereum Trading in Spain
Spanish banking giant BBVA has made history by securing approval to offer Bitcoin and Ethereum trading services to its customers. The approval, granted by Spain's financial authority, paves the way for the bank to launch a service enabling clients to buy, sell, and manage cryptocurrency transactions through its mobile application.
This move is significant as it marks one of the first times a major traditional bank has been given regulatory clearance to offer crypto services. BBVA customers will soon be able to access Bitcoin and Ethereum trading directly through the bank's platform, with the service aimed at simplifying cryptocurrency transactions for both retail and institutional clients.
The approval coincides with the implementation of MiCA across the European Union, which provides a unified regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies, enhancing transparency, consumer protection, and market stability. BBVA customers will engage with crypto assets under legal protections designed to reduce fraud and volatility risks.
