BC Card Completes South Korea's First Stablecoin Payment Proof of Concept with Coinbase
BC Card has achieved a significant milestone in the integration of digital assets into mainstream payment infrastructure by successfully completing South Korea's first stablecoin payment proof of concept (PoC) with Coinbase.
The three-month pilot, which began in April, aimed to evaluate the feasibility of linking overseas digital-asset wallets with South Korea's card payment network. The PoC simulated real-world transactions, allowing foreign visitors to use USDC, a USD-pegged stablecoin, to pay for goods and services at participating BC QR merchants without the need for traditional currency exchange processes.
The successful completion of this PoC has significant implications for cross-border payments, offering faster settlement, lower transaction costs, and increased transparency compared to traditional banking systems. By enabling direct payments from digital wallets to merchants, the process eliminates the need for intermediaries and reduces settlement times.
