BC Card Completes South Korea's First Stablecoin Payment Proof of Concept
BC Card, a South Korean card company, has successfully completed a proof of concept (PoC) for stablecoin payments in collaboration with Coinbase and Wavebridge. The pilot tested the feasibility of linking overseas digital-asset wallets with South Korea's card payment network.
The PoC simulated real-world transactions, allowing foreign visitors to use $USDC, a USD-pegged stablecoin, to pay for goods and services at participating BC QR merchants in South Korea. By bypassing traditional currency conversion, the process aimed to streamline cross-border payments and reduce friction for international travelers.
The three-month pilot, which began in April, marks a significant step in the integration of digital assets with traditional card networks. The involvement of Coinbase and Wavebridge underscores the growing interest in bridging the gap between digital assets and conventional financial systems.
