BC Card Tests Stablecoin Tourist Payments in Korea
BC Card has completed a proof of concept for a system allowing foreign tourists to pay directly with dollar-based stablecoins at domestic credit card affiliated stores without currency exchange. The three-month demonstration, conducted in collaboration with Coinbase and Wavebridge, verified the entire process from payment to merchant settlement in won.
The participating companies implemented a technology that immediately returns the USDC used for payment to the customer's wallet when a merchant cancels a payment or a system failure occurs. This addresses a key challenge of blockchain-based payments: establishing stable payment cancellation and refund processes.
BC Card plans to pursue development of a global standard interface specification (API) that can flexibly connect overseas digital asset wallets with its domestic merchant network, expanding the digital asset payment ecosystem.
