Bearish Sentiment Builds as Bitcoin Faces Squeeze Risk Toward $93K
Bitcoin's recent price recovery has done little to shift sentiment in derivatives markets. Despite reclaiming key levels, traders are increasingly leaning bearish, setting up conditions that analysts say could trigger a sharp squeeze toward $93,000.
CryptoQuant flagged $93,000 as a key upside target for Bitcoin, tied to CME futures gap dynamics. Derivatives data shows negative funding and a rare short majority, with the long-to-short ratio standing at 47.5% long versus 52.5% short, marking a four-month high.
Analyst Ted Pillows highlighted extreme positioning imbalance, warning of a potential sharp move, including the risk of a long squeeze. On-chain analyst Checkmatey outlined key resistance levels, placing the first 'line of defense' for bears at $78,000, and cautioned that if Bitcoin breaks through those levels, pessimistic sentiment might quickly deteriorate.
The divergence between price strength and bearish positioning could reflect hedging activity or a potential build-up toward a squeeze. Meanwhile, portfolio shifts and market narratives are favoring growth-oriented positions, with investors increasingly positioning Bitcoin as a core portfolio asset.
