Belgium Demands Crypto Wallet Data in Pirate Site Probe
Belgium's Department for Combating Online Infringement has issued sweeping demands to European domain registrars, requiring them to turn over financial records and cryptocurrency wallet details linked to suspected pirate site operators.
The directives were issued under orders from the French-speaking Business Court of Brussels as part of a crackdown on digital piracy. The requested information includes full names, physical addresses, telephone numbers, financial records, and cryptocurrency wallet addresses alongside transaction hashes.
Registrars are also required to provide up to 12 months of connection logs, device details, and IP addresses associated with targeted user accounts. The court order prohibits registrars from notifying account holders or the public about the proceedings.
